Riparian Plaza is a recently completed skyscaper in the central business district of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. At 200 metres in height, it is a mixed use building, with 11 carpark levels from the ground up, 25 commercial levels, and 10 residential levels housing 50 penthouse apartments. On top of the tower is a 50 metre communications spire.
The building was designed by architect Harry Seidler. The total cost of the project was A$100 million. Riparian Plaza was the first, new, premium office space available in the Brisbane cbd for a decade. The building was completed in late 2005.
The tower is supported on 43 bored piers, 1.5m - 1.8m in diameter and 15m - 20m in length establish the foundation of the tower while negotiating a major telecommunications easement crossing the river and traversing an active 3m heritage stormwater line servicing 30% of the CBD. Each bored pier is formed with high performance concrete to provide a 50 MN individual capacity with durability suited to the soft alluvial marine soils. The piles are socketed into the metamorphosed Phyllite bedrock.
The piles were designed using Foundation QAs rock-socket design program, ROCKET. For further information or general project advice please contact Dr. Julian Seidel of Foundation QA.
